Ask Nutmeg collects as little as it can. Your meal log stays on your own device, meal photos aren't saved, and we never sell your information.
This page explains what the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, your email address is stored by MailerLite, our email provider, and used only to send the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Meal Log photos. When you use the Meal Log, your photo (and any note you add) is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service to estimate its nutrition. Ask Nutmeg doesn't save your photos. Anthropic processes them under its own terms and privacy policy.
Your meal history. The meals you log are saved only in your own browser, on your own device. We can't see them. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
A daily photo limit. To keep the Meal Log free, we count how many photos each visitor sends per day. We do this with a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, not the address itself, and delete these counts after 3 days.
How the site is used. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are popular and roughly where visitors come from, so we know what to make more of. Google Analytics uses cookies and doesn't tell us who you are.
Maps in blog posts. Some blog posts show a small Google map so you can see where a restaurant is. When that map loads, Google may set cookies and see your IP address, under Google's own privacy policy. The "Find on Google Maps" buttons simply open Google Maps.
Basic server logs. Our host (Hostinger) automatically records technical details such as IP address and browser type, for security and to keep the site running.
Health information
Meal photos and notes can say something about what you eat. Please don't include anything in a photo or note that you wouldn't want shared with the AI service, such as your name, medical details or other people's faces. Ask Nutmeg is general information, not medical advice.
What we don't do
No selling. We don't sell or rent your personal information.
No extra sharing. We only share information with the services listed above, which help run the site.
Not for young children. Ask Nutmeg isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we have about you (usually just a newsletter email address) by writing to hello@asknutmeg.com. We'll reply within 30 days. You can block cookies in your browser, or use Google's opt-out add-on for Google Analytics; the site still works.
Links to Instagram, Facebook, X and other sites are covered by those sites' own policies. If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top.
